This is a serious waste of time. The protagonist lacks depth, compassion, intelligence, self respect and is a total mess. The narration is boring, aloof, mindless and adds nothing to your life. The pseudo-philosophizing here and there is out of context and can only suffice as poor anecdotal reference. This to a great extent is imposing a male fantasy upon a woman and passing it on as a female fantasy. Like, giving a blowjob, getting spewed on with sperm over your face after painful anal sex, being treated like a slave in bed and finding all these acts as "liberating" sexual experience etc. are like applauding misogyny every time you read it. Plus the moral policing and pro-religious philosophy and the introduction of the Shaman character to impose "morality" and to "enlighten" the adulterous woman was so pathetic! The evolutionary logic depicted by the shaman was nothing short of justifying men's adulterous behavior while simultaneously mis-contextualizing a woman's sexual conducts as "immoral" and "wrong." Not to mention, all characters are so poorly painted that they lack your basic sympathy. An utter disgrace and shame from Coelho, whose Al-Chemist moved so many people(including me) in so many different ways.
